In the UK, you'll find numerous small, local clay shoots perfect for those seeking a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. However, for those with a competitive spirit, an organised structure of competitions awaits. From club and county events to regional and national championships, and even international championships and world cups, there's a path that leads all the way to the prestigious Olympic Games.

Clay Shooting Competitions in the UK
In the United Kingdom, disciplines like English Sporting (ESP), English Skeet (ESK), and Down-The-Line (DTL) are regulated and managed by the Clay Pigeon Shooting Association (CPSA) and equivalent bodies in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
Important competition regulating bodies include:
- Scottish Clay Target Association
- Welsh Clay Target Shooting Association
- Ulster Clay Pigeon Shooting Association
- British Shooting
Participating grounds across the country host 'CPSA Registered' events, recording members' scores and placing shooters into classes (AAA, AA, A, B, C, and D) to ensure fair competition among those with similar abilities. Most shoots also include categories for veterans, ladies, juniors (shooters under 21) and colts (shooters under 16).

National and International Clay Shooting Championships
The CPSA also organises national championships in 16 different disciplines, including the prestigious English Open and British Open in English Sporting, attracting over 1,000 entries each. These championships produce overall English and British Champions along with champions in various categories.
Collaborating with other organisations, the CPSA also hosts World Championships in several disciplines, such as the World English Sporting Championships, alternating between the UK and the USA each year.
For those dreaming of representing Britain internationally, British Shooting manages the development and selection of athletes in disciplines like Olympic Trap (OT) and Olympic Skeet (OSK). They run a pathway scheme for shooters aspiring to join the GB squad, competing in World Cups, World Championships, and even the Olympics.
